ATA establishes flooding relief fund
In response to the devastating floods this past spring in southern Alberta, Provincial Executive Council (PEC) has established the Southern Alberta Flooding Relief Fund to assist teachers affected by flooding.
PEC, at its October meeting, approved operating procedures and authorized a contribution of $20,000 from the Association’s Special Emergency Fund. Local associations and individual teachers are invited to make additional contributions.
Who is eligible for assistance?
Teachers who held active membership in good standing with the ATA at the time of the flooding in June 2013 and who experienced material losses or expenses attributed to the flooding that have not been covered by other agencies (for
example, insurance company, government agency or aid agency) will need to sign a declaration to that effect and enumerate the losses or expenses. A declaration form is posted on the Association’s website (www.teachers.ab.ca). Declarations must be received by the close of business on January 31, 2014.
